It’s now or never. The guest room overhaul (and the ensuing side projects that have spun up along with it) must be finished this weekend. That’s my proclamation and we all know that when I stand on a chair in the middle of the living room and DECLARE something, it is gonna happen, as cats are my witness.
It’s Friday and I have the day off work today and a wide weekend ahead devoted to finishing up. Working on it every other weekend makes the job feel as if it’s been dragging on all summer and I cannot take it one. more. weekend. I am ready to be done and move on to creative things!
The process has been slow going but I can tell it’s been good for me. Today I’m bemoaning the pace but in the beginning glacial was still too aggressive for me. Now I find it much easier to get rid of items and make decisions. And I’ve picked up momentum. As the pile of clutter diminishes, I get really excited about the finished product. I’m creating a cozy space for guests, AND I’ll get my office and sewing room back!
- My main goal for today is to remove EVERYTHING from that room except the furniture
- Continue to discard/sort items as I unearth them
- Deep clean in every nook and crevice, including the closet
When the room is all cleared and perfectly clean, I will only put back the items that belong in the room. Each item must have a designated spot, and be useful or beautiful (or hopefully both). Everything else has to find a new home or go to the donation center. And that’s that.
The shelves I ordered for the closet have come in piecemeal and I’m still missing two of the support posts. Hopefully they will arrive this weekend so I can fit out the closet, too. And then I think I am DONE.
Of course I’m glad I decided to tackle this project but I am so ready to be finished with it. This poor travel blog turned into a whole personal exploration of my hoarder tendencies. It feels like a year ago that I stood in the living room having an existential crisis over a paperback book. It was a mere 14 days ago. Ah, summer. You are truly endless.
Wish me luck on my weekend endeavor! I’m going in!
