All my projects are about 1/3 done and my schedule is bananas and the churn is making me feel a teetiny bit mental. Add to that a funky household problem and you have a recipe for Crazy Me. Luckily I have learned a trick to keep my outlook upbeat even when I want to hide in a corner and eat my own hair:
Just focus on the one thing going right instead of obsessing over the one thing going wrong.
So instead of making myself anxious and stressed over the newly arrived ants that have a a uncanny, psychic ability to find the cat food no matter where I move it… I am going to focus on what is smooth and easy and happy. Whether I like it or not! hah hah
- I’m sewing again! (kind of)
Patterns selected, fabric purchased, and I even got my machines serviced. Hopefully I can get some sewing time in this week and have a few finished objects to show you. I’ve managed to get the pattern cut out and most of the pieces cut and pinned, and wow have I missed that.
- Rite Aid Has Halloween Stuff For 50% Off
Yesterday I stopped in to Rite Aid for a card for my colleague and I found a bunch of halloween lights for the office and everything was marked half price! Beth is completely mad about Halloween and I fully expect her portion of the office to look like a haunted house by the end of September. I found some pumpkin lights and some candy-corn-colored string lights for her, both are the plug-in lights which work better in our office. They also had a great selection of battery-powered lights if you prefer those.
- My skin is finally clearing up
Did I tell you I was having a whole weird breakout issue? It feels completely unfair to worry about both wrinkles and acne at the same time. Maybe it was stress or diet or general inflammation but all the dermatologist found to clear it up was antibiotics. So when the same acne came roaring back a few months ago I was super bummed. I did not want another round of antibiotics. That’s when I ordered a Proactiv kit from amazon. I’ve been using it for four weeks now and it actually works! At first my skin got super dry, so I just use the face wash in the mornings in the shower and I mostly put it on my breakout zone only. I put the repairing lotion on in the morning and at night. (Beware it will bleach your pillowcase and face towel, so use a white one.) The toner is great so I use it twice a day. This stuff really works, I’m so happy. The skin thing was stressing me out. I haven’t had a new breakout in two weeks and the older ones are fading. HOLLA!
- I Figured Out How To Play Multi-Region DVDs!
This was a head scratcher. Luckily the internet is full of all the solutions to all the problems. I thought it would be some super complex techy solution, but it was really simple. I have a macbook pro from 2012, and I just followed these directions. First, I set my system preferences to stop automatically opening the mac DVD player software when a disc is inserted. Then I installed the VLC player. Then I set that as my default playback. IT WORKED!! I did not have to change my disc player format or anything. Now The Captain and I can binge watch the rest of the Danish version of The Killing.
- We Are Now People Who Binge Watch
Well, we hope to be people who binge watch soon… like, this weekend. The Captain and I found one episode of the original Danish series of The Killing (Forbrydelsen) free online here and watched it while we were in Copenhagen. And it is SO GOOD. We wanted to watch the rest and we searched everywhere to find it digitally — every streaming provider, every online digital shop, and it was nowhere! I wanted to pay for it because that’s the right thing to do but it wasn’t available anywhere for US playback. So frustrating. Finally I broke down and bought the DVD set of the first season but it’s Region 2. With the trick above I can use my laptop for playback, so now we can spend the weekend in bed watching this creepy/awesome Danish show. Oh yeah.
So those are five happy things. Actually, that little platitude at the top of the page worked … while I was focused on writing this list I didn’t think about those tenacious little ant buttheads getting into the cat food even once. And while I am going to try not to obsess over it, if anyone with a similar SoCal ant issue has some solutions I am all ears!
Bob is all ears, too 🙂
