Monday, But Also With a Thursday Feel

August 7, 2017
new rug for the guest room

The calendar says Monday but my antsy self thinks it is Thursday. I’ve taken the last three days of this week as vacation time so I can actually visit with my visitor (last time I worked the. entire. time.) There’s still a conference call I can’t miss on Thursday but so is the life of a lady workaholic.

Today already before work:

1) Got the rug under the guest bed. It does have a new carpet smell, not overwhelming but it’s there. Not sure how to make it dissipate faster but I have the windows open in the guest room. As you can see from the picture above it is a lovely cream-colored shag, and that means every cat in this house is trying to hock up a hairball on it as we speak. That’s why I waited so long to put it on the floor! Anyway, the guest room door is closed for now so that those furball felines can’t ruin everything in the 48 hours before Drew arrives.

Oh! Almost forgot to tell you where I got it. It’s this rug from Overstock.com and I bought it for just under $100 with a combination of a coupon from their email list + some sale they were having. It is super soft and way nicer than I expected for the price! Overstock is the only place online I ever buy rugs — they give you free shipping and it shows up right at your doorstep in just a few days. Plus if you read all the reviews you can get good advice on what to buy.

2) Took both sewing machines in to get serviced. The place I used to go to was out of business, so I found a new shop in North Hollywood (here’s the yelp link) and if it ends up being good I’ll do a post on it. I have my old Singer that I started using as a teenager and I have Joe’s mom’s machine that he is letting me borrow/store until he has a space. Her machine is way nicer than mine, so I am planning to use that one but took them both in because who has time for sixteen trips to the sewing repair shop?

3) Hung the outdoor solar lights, finally. I have had these cute little outdoor solar-powered lights sitting in a box for a couple of months (surprise) and I hung them on the trees out front. Time will tell if I put the solar panels in a space that gets enough sunshine to power them up. [ Update: One string turned on, but the other stayed dark 🙁 ]

Not bad for a morning’s work-before-work. My to-do list is still long but seems to be shrinking every day!

"Where are we going and why are we in this handbasket?"

Right now I am …

Starting to take some of the improvements from the guest room and add them to my bedroom, like this cool power outlet for the bedside table. I’m hoping it helps with the constant problem of needing to charge all devices simultaneously.

Still obsessing over Sew Over It and Lisa Comfort, the lady boss behind it all. Here is her site, YouTube vlog, and Insta. I bought pretty much every pattern they have during the recent 30% off sale.

Currently reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss. I need this book to help me but I don’t have enough time to read this book because I’m working nonstop, so…

Interested in these silica gel packets for my yarn stash. Does anyone out there add these to ziplock baggies of yarn?

Find and follow your passion is a load of crap.

Expecting to find something where everything clicks from the get go and is all good from there on out is a surefire way to never be happy.

Pursue your interests. Stay curious. Hone a craft. Passion emerges over years, not seconds.
