In almost every way it’s “one of those days” and wow am I ready for the weekend.
I’m not normally one to complain about the dudes in the workplace treating me differently because I’m a female, but today was kind of astonishing. Let’s just say someone severely misread the situation. Fairly sure every woman in the workplace has one of these days. Today was my day.
Actually, it’s probably universal. Every man in the workplace has had one of these days, too. We’re all human beings who really would rather be on vacation!
I’m getting a new project manager for one of my ongoing projects and we chatted briefly today. She was nervous and a bit worried because she has some planned time off coming up.
“On my team, never cancel a vacation,” I told her. “Breaks are necessary for mental health.”
She hugged me. That part of the day was pretty good, actually.
My old boss once gave me some very good advice: Don’t wait for a “good time” to go on vacation. There is never a good time to go on vacation. He was right! Now I just schedule in time and make it work. Sometimes I have to work on the plane or in the lounge or while I’m drinking wine in Paris (too bad so sad, eh) (hence also my freak out yesterday about the rumored laptop ban) but I go on my vacations. Life is too short to give up vacation days.
Today: The whole team was in Burbank (even Kiyo.) I skipped lunch. Too many intense conversations, Nothing more to say.
